The new year may bring some changes to Rosalind’s but all for the better to help our customers look and feel beautiful.

Marlies Dekkers is coming out with a Mastectomy Bra.  Can’t wait for that!

We will be carrying a line of clothing called Sympli.  I love the versatile looks that you can achieve with these “made in Canada” clothes.

Of course it is the bras and the bra fitting that we most love.   Some of our lines are gone and others have made changes in how they are importing their product into Canada.  We believe  that these transitions will go smoothly and that we can continue to serve our customers as usual.

Its Beginning to look like Christmas

The statistics are true –  85% of women are wearing the wrong size bra.  We see it every day in the store and the most common error is that women tend to go up in the band size instead of the cup.  If your bra is riding up at the back or you are falling out the bottom when you raise your arms then it is too big around for you.  The following are basic tips when shopping for a bra.

1.  The band should be snug on the loosest hook and be like a straight circle around your rib cage.

2. The underwire needs to be completely flat against your chest wall never on breast tissue.  If the wire pinches go up a cup size.

3. Straps should be loose enough that you can pull up on the straps about an inch.  (The straps do not hold up your breasts)

4.  Make sure that the bra is not too tall for you under the arms.  Every bra is not for everybody.  Move around a little - a bra that chafes at the armpit is uncomfortable.

5.  If the bra is empty at the top this doesn’t mean that the bra is too big. Most of us don’t have a full breast at the top and of course a t-shirt bra is such that you must conform to its shape.  Some woman may not be able to get the fit that they want in a seamless bra.    Be open.  Let the fitter help you find “the perfect fit” whatever the bra style.

BE BREAST AWARE  -

The breasts are constantly changing through life. Being breast aware means knowing how your breasts normally look and feel. That way, if there are any significant changes, you’ll be more likely to notice them early.

A change in the breasts is not necessarily a sign of breast cancer. Some changes to the breasts are normal. Other changes can be caused by a benign, or noncancerous, condition. If a change does turn out to be cancer, being breast aware may help you detect it early.

It is possible for breast cancer to develop without any changes that can be easily noticed through breast awareness. In addition to breast awareness, there are other methods to help with early detection.

Two common methods of breast screening are:

• Clinical breast examination
• Screening mammography

Breast cancer is often thought of as a concern for older women. However, young women can also get breast cancer. Breast awareness is important at any age.

FIVE STEPS TO BEING BREAST AWARE

1. Know how your breasts normally look and feel.
2. Know what changes to look for.
3. Look and feel for changes.
4. Report any changes to a doctor.
5. Go for a free mammogram if you are of the appropriate age, or if recommended by a doctor. By finding breast abnormalities in the early stages, mammograms can save lives. Women at the appropriate age can get a free mammogram through their regional breast screening program.

I have recently lost some weight (finally the last of the baby weight is coming off) and needed to pick up a few new basic pieces for my work wear and casual every day wear.  What I didn’t expect is to find so many pieces that I love.

I was able to try on the new fall cotton  Chalet line this weekend and I think I picked up more than half of the line for myself.  Great casual pants (that I am wearing in the store today),  2 long sleeve t-shirts, a funky vest, 2 dresses (a long sleeve short dress and an asymmetrical jumper) , a funky long cardigan, 3/4 sleeve boat neck top, and that’s just what I took home Saturday.  I thought I’d leave somethings to sell in the store this week.  There is a hooded dress, leggings, and 2 more tops, that I plan in getting in a couple of weeks.

What I like best about this line is that it is perfect for work, easy to take care of and something I can easily transition to playing around at home with my 3 kids.  Buying quality basic pieces with a bit of edge is perfect when trying to update your wardrobe.

We’ve also started to get in our winter (yes that’s what I said) Merino hats, mitts and gloves, beautiful 3/4 rouched leather gloves, lots of funky and traditional scarves and our one size fleece Boris Jackets long or 3/4 length.

The day began at 7:30  and the guests were able to browse at the booths until 9:00 .  Shevaun was the first speaker and she was truly inspiring.  Her message of persuing your life with passion and audaciousness was significant.  We were all moved as she shared her life and remarkable capacity to endure , and overcome grief  which in many ways was the catylist to publish her international business magazine – Motivated.

Shevaun then interviewed Jody and Laura and they were very forthcoming concerning how they got started in their businesses and how gratitude and dedication to humanitarian causes were a significant part of their everyday lives.

What can be said about Silken Laumann.  She was beautiful, strong and funny.  Her courageous comeback after the devastating accident 10 weeks before the 1992 Olymbic Games ( where she won the Bronze) was nothing short of miraculous.  Today, the power of positive thinking and the courage to embrace change and overcome obstacles make her life running a charity and inspiring thousands of people in business and in life simply magical.

What can I say about Bal – she was funny – definitely spirited and VERY confident.  I truly enjoyed the story of her  life journey from the  poverty in a small village in India where she, as a girl was of no value (other than as a cook for her family), to coming to Canada , becoming a Teacher and eventually writing 2 Cook Books and having her own Cooking Show called “The Spice Goddess”.  This show is on the cooking channel and is currently the second-highest ranked show on the network.  We hope to keep in touch with Bal as she is truly Inspiring.

The last speaker Arlene Dickinson is a savvy business women, strong, practical and the Dragon Den’s marketing expert.  She was able to take a small local firm and turn it into one of the largest independent agencies in Canada.  Arlene was named one of Chatelaine’s Top 100 Business Owners and has been inducted into Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 Hall of Fame.

It was a great experience and we will definitely go again next year.  Mark your calendars for this truly inspiring event .
